“For I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me, I was naked and you came to me.”
Matthew 25: 35-36
Ministries at Metro
Through our ministries at Metro, we hope to serve the church, the community, and the world. To find out more about how we can serve you or how you can join us in serving others, please explore the ministry links below.
Nursery
A staffed nursery is available during the 11:00 a.m. worship service for children ages 2 and under. Our nursery volunteers, made up of caring adult women, provide you the opportunity to worship knowing your child is in a safe and loving environment. The room is also equipped with a video feed of the service for parents who would like to accompany their children to the nursery.

Sunday Morning Classes
Sunday School
Prior to our worship service each morning, Metro offers a variety of bible classes for children of all ages to attend. Our classes are taught by wonderful members of our church family who are dedicated to nourishing and strengthening the faith of our children.
Bible Hour
Prior to the Sunday morning sermon, children in Pre-K through 4th grades are dismissed from the auditorium to participate in their own Children's Bible Hour in the lower elementary classroom. This is an active and engaging time of worship during which the children sing, learn a Bible lesson, do crafts, and occasionally enjoy a puppet show. Children can be picked up at the classroom immediately after worship service ends.
Wednesday Evening Classes
Children ages 3 through 3rd grade gather together on Wednesday evenings to study God's word at their own level.
The upper elementary children meet on Wednesday evenings to grow in their walk with Christ as they study God's word. Through reading scripture, games, and activities, the goal is to strengthen the children's understanding of the nature of God and His will for us. |
Children Activities
VBS
For one week each summer, our entire building is tranformed into an exciting place for children to learn about God in fun, active, and extraordinary ways. Past themes have included a jungle complete with an exotic zoo, a computer lab with a zany and slightly "mad" scientist, and a look into the 'Waterful World of Jesus." We look forward to trying to top ourselves each year.
Other Events
Metro kids enjoy many other events throughout the year such as the annual Easter egg hunt, the Halloween party, and more. We have even had a family carnival complete with bounce houses, face painting, carnival games, and prizes.
Teen Classes
The teen class meets on Sunday morning and Wednesday evening, taught by our Family Life Minister and Elder, Jeff Westerby
The lessons are designed to:
1) To help the teens at Metro own their faith in Christ. It's not something inherited or borrowed from their families; it's a personal commitment to walk with the Lord of the Universe.
2) To encourage our youth to have a Biblical worldview with God at the center of their lives and their thinking. God has revealed Himself in Christ, in the created order, in His word, the Bible. We hope to challenge our teens to seek these Truths with all of their being.

Community Outreach
Metro Helping Hands
Metro runs a food pantry two (2) mornings each week. We help those in need by providing nutritious food and a loving introduction to the love of Christ. In conjunction with United Way 211 and Forgotten Harvest, referals are sent to us and appointments are made for clients.
Many of our congregational members bring in items on a weekly basis. Specific needs are listed in the bulletin.
By providing for earthly needs, it is our goal, not only to please our Lord and Savior, but to introduce Him to those who may not know about the grace and forgiveness that He can give them.
"For there will never cease to be poor in the land. Therefore, I command you, 'You shall open wide your hand to your brother, to the needy, and to the poor, in your land.'" -- Deuteronomy 15:11

MCREST
Since 2003, Metro has been honored to work with the Macomb County Rotating Emergency Shelter Team. Teaming up with Rockpointe Community Church, for one week each year, we provide shelter, food, and Bible study to homeless families in our area. This endeavor requires a minimum of 80 adult volunteers who can sign up to work for as little as one hour or as much as the entire week. There is something for everyone to do including setting up, greeting, prepping and serving meals, washing laundry, visiting with guests, providing security and transportation to showers and work, and more.
We do not advertise MCREST on the public calendar, so please watch for announcements so you can participate in this program. It's a great help to those who need it most and an uplifting and moving experience for those who volunteer. Our MCREST contact person at Metro is Sue O'Bryan Hunt. To learn more about MCREST, you can also visit their website at www.mcrest.org

Schults-Lewis Children's Home
The Shults-Lewis Children's Home, located in Valparaiso, Indiana, is a residential environment for struggling teens. In addition to providing educational, social, and counseling services, the Christian house-parents and counselors strive to "show Christ to every child and every family [they] serve." We at Metro help this effort on a regular basis by providing monetary contributions along with donations of food and clothing. If you would like to make a donation, please watch the bulletin for the next request and deadline.
Questions can be addressed to Linda Case or you can find out more about the children's home by visiting their website at www.shultslewis.org.

Missions
Obong Missions - Nigeria
Moses Akpanudo is a native Nigerian from the small bush village of Obong Ntak. Moses Akpanudo and many of the teachers of Obong Schools / College are gospel preachers. During the dry season they take the students on open-air campaigns. Hundreds have obeyed the gospel. There have been many new congregations established as a direct result of the work of the staff and students.

Bibles for ChinaThrough this ministry, Bibles, printed in China, are openly and legally distributed to Chinese Christians in rural areas. Each $5 donation to this ministry pays for the printing and distribution of one Bible to eager Christians who can not afford to purchase one for themselves.

Campaign for Christ in IndiaAmong many other works, the India mission team focuses on evangelism, preacher training, assisting preachers in need, and providing bicycles and Bibles to workers. Through the efforts of this organization, over 2,650,000 souls have been baptized into Christ since 1979. Over 75% of those converted through the team's efforts have remained faithful.
Contact Maureen Foglesong to find out more about this mission and how you can help Metro support it. |
Eastern European Missions (EEM)The focus of this ministry is to provide Bibles and quality Christian literature to missionaries, churches, youth camps, nationwide Bible clubs, mission groups, public schools, and even entire states throughout Europe and Russia. This effort continues to lead and partner in missions as a catalyst for the advancement of Christianity and moral development in a region of the world in need of God.
